One thing you must know when choosing your career is that "career choice depends largely on who you are and not what you know". What you love doing is the signal placed inside of you to point the way to your career.
Here are some steps to follow when choosing your careers;
1. Identify what you love doing: Always choose your career based on what you love to do and this may include cooking, drawing, writing, singing, dancing, etc.
Before you continue reading, I want you to ask yourself these questions to help you choose your career wisely;
a. What are my hobby?
b. What do I love to do?
c. What area of life do I function well in life?
d. What are my natural talents? and;
e. Who am I ?
Write down the answers to these questions on a sheet of paper and go over it over and over again.
2. Identify the school subjects in which you always perform excellently: This is also one important thing to do when choosing your career and when you identify the school subjects that you perform excellently, you can now add that knowledge to your career to make you better in your career choice. For example, if you're good in Biology you can learn more on that subject to increase your knowledge.
There is a saying that says" if you want to hide something from an African man put it in a book". It is a believe that Africans hate to read so prove that believe wrong by reading. And there is also a saying that says"he who stops reading stops living".
3. Be creative: There is alot of the same old same old out there and it is true that copy cats can become well known. Been creative basically means having something that people will remember because it's stands out of course. This can backfire if you're too focused and complete originality( there is no such thing) but you should tease out what specific and original thing you have to offer because that will help you when you're selling your project. You can become famous through your career and these are some easy ways of doing that;
a. Setting the stage: : These days, it is alot easier to become famous. Social Media makes it easier and faster to connect with large groups of people. Getting to celebrity status, however takes time and commitment. It won't happen overnight, buy there are few ways to make it more likely to happen and these include;
i. Choose you types of celebrity: There are lots of different kinds of celebrities from writers, fiction, singers and actors or even chefs. To become a celebrity, you have to pick an area to become a celebrity in. It's also good to decide whether you're looking for that 15 minutes of fame or whether you want your fame to be a lifelong endeavour. It takes time and effort to accomplish but will last longer.
ii. Practice: There is a say that says" practice makes perfect. So if you're wanting to be a celebrity at something, you're going to have to work at it until you're at a level that makes people want to invest in you. While, it's true that celebrities aren't always the best at what they do but they still tend to be good at it. Whether it's writing, acting, singing or cooking.
Put in at least one hour everyday at your chosen fields. This will help you get focused on your creative endeavours and keep you focused towards your goals, which is having people know your work. And also set a goal it will motivate you even if nobody does.
iii. Study celebrities in your chosen fields: See how those celebrities got famous. Chances are however you won't see all the background work that went into getting them to their celebrity status, but you will able to see where they started. For example, alot of celebrities talk about their early years and what they did to further their careers. Study how and where they got the break that allowed them to become a celebrity and how much work they had to do simply to get to that place.
